DIY Modern bathroom on Flickr

I am a true fan of the DIY project, especially if you can pull off a good DIY Modern. I think most fans of modern design can only afford the cheap modern furniture cough Ikea cough cough. When I ran upon this set of photos on Flickr I was pretty excited. Nicole and Herold have completely remodeled there home and I love what they did in the bathroom. They did their own concrete countertops and utilized Ikea cabinets very very cool, more pics after the jump.

The Aquarium as modern art

I was 8 years old when I received my first aquarium. I was hooked. I have owned several different aquariums throughout my life. I always look at them as this little world that you can stylize just the way you want. Gravel, plants, rocks and even the fish are all factors in creating your very own unique oasis. I recently came across the Aqua Forest Aquariums. I was completely in awe. As you can see from the pictures, they are made to mimic terrain on land not under water. Part of their beauty is the aquarium itself.

Simplicity and Clarity are the two key factors we paid close attention to in designing aquarium tanks for The Nature Aquarium. Eliminating plastic frames and refining the use of silicon as not to clash the clarity of the glass made of selected material. The Nature Aquarium concept has succeeded to design glass aquarium tanks which give your aquascapes a boundless panorama.

Modern designer wallpaper

I have always loved going into a store, restaurant, or office building and seeing an entire wall covered in art or a really cool mural. One way to accomplish this look is by using wallpaper. Most wallpaper is just a repeated pattern of some sort, so not really art per say. Here are a few examples. See more and find out where to get them after the jump

Modern Art?

Art in general is very subjective. I do believe that when a person looks at a piece of art there needs to be some sort of connection. Some people like to have a connection to the artist, then they learn to appreciate the art. I really don’t care about the artist, that is always secondary to me. I want the piece to grab my attention as to draw me into it’s world (let me know if this is getting too deep). Original art is usually expensive, not that is shouldn’t be. One place I have learned to look is EBay, ya no surprise there. We have acquired one piece there and recently found another. We placed it over the stairway as you go down into the family room.We really like this one because it was very raw and industrial with lots of heavy texture. The colors are nice too not to bright. The artists name is Brian K Elston more about him and his EBay Store

Dave the cow? "Modern cowhide rug"

We finally decided on a new rug for under the coffee table. I have always loved a cowhide rug mixed into a modern room. I had a hard time convincing my wife but she finally gave in. My 3 year old said “our cow needs a name” she decided it would be DAVE. Surprisingly it is very soft and my wife even said “it is gorgeous” It finally arrived, so here it is!  Here are some other examples of cowhide rugs in modern settings.
