Modern Trailer - Re-FAB VS PREFAB - TrailerWrap

I was thumbing through some older magazines and came across this project. Not only does the place look great but who would have thought looking at this modern home, that it was once a run down rather gross looking trailer. More pics and links after the jump.

TrailerWrap is part of Prof. Hughes’ ongoing Design Outreach Initiative. This work is focused on small, unremarkable, and often forgotten places adjacent to the lives of underserved people. Located in the boundary between architecture and landscape the projects seek to create experiential delight out of small-scale design opportunities. Through the adaptive re-use and recycling of leftover urban spaces the resulting projects augment and enhance existing building infrastructures with new, primarily outdoor, spaces That provide pragmatic functions, promote play, and exhibit a social and environmental conscience.

Over the course of 24 months a group of over 50 undergraduate and graduate architecture students and 3 professors undertook all aspects related to the design, planning, coordination, material specification, and re-construction of this mobile home.

Modern Landscaping - Orange Street Studio

Not much to say about Orange Street Studio, one look at their work and “holy freaking wow”. The Bubalo project stood out the most, but all of the projects are gorgeous. More pics and link after the jump

By paring the plant palette to a select number of species and through the use of massing, the richness of textures and colors is highlighted. Together, the plants and warm materials create a contemporary garden that is both functional and evocative.

1950s home becomes a modern duplex - LA Times

“My house was the ugliest, I think — a maze of small, dark, ugly rooms,” she says of the original 1950s design. The transformation is impressive, particularly when one learns how she achieved it.

The result is a house divided: two units instead of one. That was the goal — a flexible, urban plan that takes advantage of the way the property is zoned. She uses the two-bedroom, 2 1/2 -bath unit at the back of the property as her home. The one-bedroom front unit serves as a guest house and office. Photos Irfan Khan/Los Angeles Times

Nice project, I really like how she did not use a big fancy design firm. Give it a read, more pics and link after the jump.

Modern Retail Interior - RANSOM HOLDING CO.

RANSOM HOLDING CO. the interior is amazing, some may say that it seems cold. I love the contrast of the wood floors and the looks to be steel counters and racks. Industrial and minimal. More pics and link after the jump. Photos by Greg Washington

Designed to look and feel like an interrogation room, this hushed menswear shop is part of a too-cool-for-school family of boutiques. Visitors are greeted by a security desk and surveillance monitors; the caged stockroom shows off high-end streetwear labels, including coveted New York, British and Japanese brands, many of which (such as Huf) were previously unavailable in Toronto. Printed T-shirts will run you $30 to $200, while jackets by Stussy and MHI range from $100 to $1,000. TRONTO LIFE
