I completely love the juxtaposition between these old and new structures. Designed by Ramon Bosh and Bet Capdeferro, a Spain based firm, they took an area that was once used to feed cattle and have breathed new life into a aging home. Their intentions were to restore the North-South guideline of the house. The forced geometry of the dark porch is a killer juxtaposition to the massive irregularity of the original structure. Don’t worry I am not going to a round image format, that is what is on their site. It is sort of a nice change up though.

Dominic: Sep 08 11 at 1:46 pmYuck. It looks like a shipping container fell out of the sky and landed in front of their house. This is not contrast. This is discord. To my eye it’s utterly amateurish and shock valuish.
That said, the addition taken on its own is kind of cool. In the right place it could be much more successful. No need to eschew harmony in the modern world.
Denise Vilim: Sep 08 11 at 2:38 pmWow! That’s really old and really new! But, I don’t know…I kindof think it works. I think there’s something about the new structure being black that makes it blend nicely with the existing structure, but I’m not sure why. Or maybe it’s the linear and angled roof lines that tie it all together.
Tyler: Sep 08 11 at 2:47 pmDominic, I do agree that it sort of looks like a shed next to an older building. Maybe it is the stark black structure next to the old brick that I really like. I wish there were more pictures of the inside and how the two structures interact from an internal perspective.
