Eames Splint part two

So a guy (me) walks into a……Oh, you’ve heard this one, so have I. Last Friday I walked into the same store that I picked up my Eames leg splint and the kind lady says “you know that leg splint you bought” at this point my first thought was “uh oh she is onto me” then she said “I got another one from the same place, do you want it?” Of course I said yes.

When I got the splint home I instantly realized that there were some very distinct differences between the two. I am not posting this to boast or brag but I am curious about this second one to see if anyone out there has some knowledge they can share about where this one came from. The second one has no markings, no Evans mark, no serial on the inside bottom and the shape is a little different. Is this even a Eames splint? Was Evans the only one that produced these? What do you think?

UPDATE!

I started a thread on this second leg splint on Design Addict. It looks as though this second splint might have been made by Alvar and Aaino Aalto’s company, Artek-Pascoe.

Graphic design and Interiors - Espluga + Associates

Espluga + Associates does a fantastic job at incorporating graphic design and typography into their interior projects. With my background in graphic design I really appreciate the integration of type and logo as part of the interior space. Most of their spaces are fairly minimal and modern which reflect their design style.

PATTERNITY - Geometric design applied

I may catch a rash of crap for posting this but just remember my background is graphic design. You may have already seen these, and you have to admit that the packaging is O so killer. The patterns and designs applied to this product are very cool too. I purposely made the first two images a little nondescript, can you guess what the product is? Make the jump to see.

Pino - lifestyle store by BOND

I am digging on the color pallet used by BOND on this store. It also seems that even the products chosen compliment the simplistic design. There is also a very nice use of text and graphic design. More after the jump.

Pino is a market place for unique, functional and innovative design objects. The idea for the concept camefrom the name of the shop, Pino, which means a ‘pile’ or ‘stack’ in Finnish. That is taken visually into the new logo and the design of the shop fixtures. The interior concept with a subtle colour palette works as a background for thefresh, colourful identity and products. Illustrations by Shan Jiang

It has been a while since my last post about art or graphic design so we are due for a good one. I have been a big fan of Shan Jiang ever since I laid eyes on the first cover for “The Ride”. Shan Jiang works for I love Dust, a great studio out of the UK. What I really apriciate is the use of color in his work. The colors are so vibrant and in some cases saturated. More after the jump.

The Father of Op Art - Victor Vasarely

I recently came across some photos that lead me to the Foundation site of Victor Vasarely. I had hunted his work on eBay on a couple of occasions but had not really done any research. Vasarely had the idea to create “Cité polychrome du Bonheur” (“Polychromatic City of Happiness”). It is located in the Aix-en-Provence, South of France. It looks absolutely amazing. Has anyone visited there? Tell us how it was! More after the jump

Victor Vasarely

According to Victor Vasarely, “we must fight against the visual pollution caused by the massive apartment buildings built in the 1960s which were inhuman and devoid of life. We must help people escape the dullness of their daily routines” by bringing color to them through the integration of plastic arts. “The integration of esthetic beauty into architecture is made possible by the use of prefabricated building materials which are meticulously selected for their attractive features. As unprecedented demographic booms occur around the world, the development of major building programs in urban and rural communities becomes increasingly common. Scientific inventions have completely transformed the building trade. Prefabricated parts are becoming one of the major industries of today’s consumer society. Not only are the tangible elements of building design (comfort, hygiene, space, light) important, but the intangible, mental elements must also be taken into consideration in the design of a city – these are just as crucial to our health as oxygen, vitamins or even love.” Clipped from http://www.fondationvasarely.fr
