After shopping around and comparing prices I decided to build my own credenza. I came across this site http://x818.com/oss3/ Pete made this cool credenza with very little cutting, drilling or gluing. After doing the research on europly “the wood Pete used” I realized it would be too expensive. So I started looking for alternatives.

I came up with the idea of using two Ikea Lack shelves and making my own. Just my luck, we found one Lack shelve in the scratch and dent section and purchased another. I ordered a set of hairpin legs from http://www.ianmaclean.com for that little touch of retro. The silver track I picked up from the local HD. I love the way it turned out and all the remotes work through the Plexiglas. Total cost was around $275. Lots of pics after the jump.

I feel like some what of a heal posting about this incredibly unique hotel. The reason being, I am only 3 hours away from both locations, Seattle and Portland. I have officially added The Ace Hotel on my “2008 to do list”. For me, the idea of staying in a hotel is always the same- bulk bought furniture and décor. Is your hotel part of a vacation, business trip, or just a place to sleep? Why not think of your hotel as part of a greater experience? Obviously The Ace Hotel would provide that. The clean lines juxtaposed against industrial elements with the integration of pop art and graphic elements makes The Ace a truly must see and stay. More pics and info after the jump.

What can I say about RAY20 but, wow! RAY20 offers a wide range furniture designed buy some of the worlds tops designers. One of these pieces would certainly be the focal point of your home, and I am sure your friends will not ask “did you get that at Ikea” not that there is anything wrong with that. We finally decided on a new rug for under the coffee table. I have always loved a cowhide rug mixed into a modern room. I had a hard time convincing my wife but she finally gave in. My 3 year old said “our cow needs a name” she decided it would be DAVE. Surprisingly it is very soft and my wife even said “it is gorgeous” It finally arrived, so here it is!  Here are some other examples of cowhide rugs in modern settings. 

So here is the scoop, I priced out euro-ply, $236 per sheet and I need 2 sheets. You do the math, way too much money. I came across this set of photos on Flickr. This guy took a Ikea Lack shelving unit and turned it on it’s side.Sooooo we made the trip to Ikea on Sat. Ikea was a zoo but I did find 2 of these units, one in the scratch and dent and one new, so this is what I will use for the structure of the credenza. We also picked up some other goodies, pics coming soon.
