I am completely in awe of the restoration, renovation and addition of this modern home by DMArchitects. The home is a 1931 heritage Art Deco-influenced house located in mid-town Toronto. I love the “formality” of the black and white exterior elements. Another material choice that caught my eye was the marble used in the bathroom, the horizontal veining in quite striking. Let’s not forget that stunning back yard, pool and all.
Modern by David Lena
I love when I come across a photographer’s portfolio full of amazing mid century modern homes. David Lena has an extraordinary body of work which includes both the interiors and exteriors of modern and mid century modern architecture. There are a couple of homes that have swimming pools and David has done a killer job at capturing the lighting and reflective qualities of the pools.
br house by Rui Ventura
OK, so where have I been? The br House located in Portugal, designed by Rui Ventura and completed in 2009 is one unique modern home. I don’t recall seeing this house before, the one element that really stands out to me are the windows on the side of the house seem to have been cut out and the negative portion lifted up to create an awning, what a killer effect. We don’t get to see much of the inside of the house but the black and white exteriors will do for me just fine.
TsAO & McKOWN Architects - Sagaponac House
There is no doubt that this 4,500 square foot house was designed and orchestrated with every detail executed to the T, What I really think is phenomenal about this home is how it resides and interacts with the terrain in which it lives. The challenge was to “root the house to the earth” where the land started out as very flat. I love that the back patio/pool area that is open to the outside but also lends some privacy.
Mid Century Modern perfection by Rob Graff of Eliot Noyes Architects
Often times I will troll the “mid century” homes for sale around the web. I can honestly say there aren’t to many that stop me in my tracks but 62 Moriarity Drive in Wilton, CT did just that. This 4,000 Sq Ft. mid century house designed by Rob Graff of Eliot Noyes Architects is stunning. I really commend the renovation for the most part, the one element that I feel they missed the mark on were the stone choices for the interior surfaces, bathrooms and kitchen (just my opinion) the stone already looks dated to me. Only 2.5 Million, some one jump on it.
Drevviken House by Claesson Koivisto Rune
Drevviken House by Claesson Koivisto Rune, located in Stockholm Sweden is s stunning exercise in minimal design and layout. Single story, check. Color palate, black and white, check. Floor to ceiling windows, check. This is pretty close to the type of home I would love to build some day. I think they did a fantastic job with the interior choices as well.
