This weekend I am putting up our fence and my mind has been on the yard lately. Huettl Landscape Architecture has an amazing portfolio full of really nice modern landscapes. I really like some of the “floating” pavers or steps as they seem to float on the water. There is a great diversity of materials used in their projects as well. I love the short wall which contains concrete and steel. And of course you gotta love the geometric layouts!
Leeuwenhof - Peerutin Architects
Totally digging on the Leeuwenhof house. The design and layout of this home really gives the feeling of a single story pad. the words that came to mind were “simple elegance”, the house is so clean and crisp. I almost feel as thought I have been transported to Palm Springs but this jewel is located in Cape Town South Africa. I really like the landscaping, I may have to borrow some ideas from this house. The interiors are a little to monotone for me but to each his own.
This house has been carefully planned to capture specific views of Table Mountain and the city below. Its relaxed style of Living on a single level with support facilities below, make it an ideal home for a large family. 5 Bedrooms and 3 living spaces ensure that all needs are met. The architecture is kept clean and makes a virtue of its simplicity.
Ten Eyck Landscape Architecture
For those that have followed the progress on my attempt to make a tract or planed neighborhood house feel more modern there is good news, we are finally moved in and working to get everything ready for final pics and post. We have been in the house for almost a month now. Part of the price of the house was a simple landscaped front yard, basically sprinklers and grass. Lately I have been planning and dreaming about the landscaping for the back and front yard. Ten Eyck has some amazing residential landscapes that make me “green” with envy, no pun intended. With a new house I just have to remember that anything I plant will take many years to achieve anything remotely as beautiful as these gardens. More after the jump.

Urbio - Urban Vertical Garden
Beau over a Urbio just sent me some info about their new Urban Vertical Garden. I usually don’t post about products likes this but I really like the marriage of design and functionality. I could actually see this in my home. Each pot is made of eco-plastic and is equipped with large neodymium magnets that are strong enough to hold almost anything to the wall. The wall plates are modular, and can easily be mounted to any wall. Check out Urbio on kickstarter they need to raise the funds to complete the tooling portion of this project. May 10, 2011 = J. Irwin Miller house opens to the public.
Last year myself and a small group were privileged to tour many of the amazing modern structures of Columbus Indiana. The pinnacle of the trip was a evening at the J. Irwin Miller house. The culmination of these 3 modern minded designers, Eero Saarinen, Alexander Girard and Dan kiley is nothing short of reverence. Almost a year later the home is now taking reservations for tours starting May 10th, 2011. Make the jump to get all of the tour details and some great links.
Joseph Irwin Miller (1909-2004) was born into a prominent Columbus, Indiana, family with business interests in banking, industry, and real estate. Irwin Miller attended Yale University, majoring in Greek and Latin and graduating Phi Beta Kappa in 1931. He then received a master’s degree from Oxford University in 1933.J. Irwin Miller
In 1934, Irwin Miller began working at Cummins Engine Company—founded by his great- uncle—which builds diesel engines in Columbus, Indiana. Under Irwin Millers leadership the company persevered to become the leading independent diesel manufacturer in the world. In addition to being a patron of modern architecture, Irwin Miller was a philanthropist and industrialist well known for his civic activism.
Significant not only to Columbus, the Miller House is also one of the most important modern houses in the country. R. Craig Miller, the IMA’s senior curator of Design Arts and director of Design Initiatives (and no relation) said, “You had these three extraordinary designers at the peak of their careers, working for two exceptional and discerning clients with almost unlimited means.” The house is not as well known as others because it was the primary residence of the Millers for decades and seldom available to be shown or photographed—another point of rarity. Interior Stylist Gaile Guevara - Woodvalley
I have seen Gaile’s interior work off and on through Flick mostly but for some reason I must have missed the Woodvalley project. I love everything about this house, inside and out. Just look at that landscaping, the pathway to the front door seriously? Amazing! I am obsessed with what Gaile did with the Dining table and lighting.
