Do you know Ben Seibel?
The first time a saw a Ben Seibel lamp, I was hooked. I then discovered some of his brass and copper work, amazing as well. I really hadn’t done a lot of research behind the designer or the other pieces he had designed. Turns out he has worked for several companies. Hopefully this will be a little insight as it was for me.
Joseph “Ben Seibel was born in 1918 in Newark, New Jersey. Ben was an accomplished musician, playing piano as well as saxophone, clarinet, oboe, and flute. He began studying architecture at Columbia, interrupted by army service. After his discharge in 1945, he continued his education at Pratt Institute, changing his concentration to industrial design. Without completing his academic career, he set up his own studio where he worked with a small staff until his death in 1985 at age 67. His output, prolific and varied, included dinnerware, glassware, stainless steel flatware, metal and wood tabletop accessories, furniture and lamps.” Text ViaBen Seibel, Photo © Michael Kaplan
He is best known for his elegant yet minimalist collection of lamps calles 5000 series which he created for company Raymor. His detailed simple style is also evident in these table or floor lamps with perforated and colorful shades and round bases which represent distinctive style of American 1950s lightning design. Alt Light and 45 Lights by T J O K E E F E
Chicago based design studio T J O K E E F E has released two new lighting products, the Alt Light and 45 Lights. All three lights are comprised of 1/4 inch square stock tubing and thin strip LED’s. Alt Light is more of a table/task light, while the 45 Lights are multi-purpose lights which can be hung and arranged in infinite ways. 45 Light comes in two sizes, 9.5 inch, and 23 inch.
Atelier Takagi
A couple of projects that caught my eye by Jonah Takagi are the The “Range Life” and the Market Research Tables. Both have an amazing feel of architecture carried throughout their designs. I really like the description for the “Range Life”, Furnishings become monumental when viewed from a child’s vantage point and fond memories of playing under coffee tables provided a point of departure for the Range Life series. The rest of his projects and products are pretty amazing as well.
Atelier Takagi represents the functional and aesthetic ideals of artist and designer Jonah Takagi. Conceived as an outlet for an over active imagination, AtelierTakagi is a multi-disciplinary design studio and workshop producing objects that require closer examination, that inspire and inform and re-contextualize our surroundings.
Ultimately, we strive to make beautiful things.

Beautiful simplicity - Renaud Thiry
When I cam across the work of Renaud Thiry I was instantly impressed with these simple and elegant objects that functioned just as good as they looked. I love the ceramic Collection Vallauris, their shapes are perfectly exact. I also really like the Lampes Kikomo, again exacting shapes that put off a wonderful light. Maker sure to click through to see all of these amazing pieces.
Daniel Becker Design Studio
Recently I have been seeing glimpses and snippets of Daniel Becker’s work. Finally I stumbled on to his site and was pretty stoked at the creativity that was presented. The styling of his products range from industrial designer to sleek futuristic. I love his Emily pendant lights. In contrast to the Emily pendant, the Sparks modular lighting system is so modern and sleek.
Simplified and modern - Noon Studio
I have always been impressed when a piece of furniture or lighting can be reduced to a simple elegant form. Noon studio, a London and Avignon based design office, created by two designers, Gautier Pelegrin and Vincent Taïani have successfully done just that. Their furniture and lighting have been shed of unnecessary confusion and stands simply with honest and true materials.
Developed and inspired through their different experiences creating a new approach to furniture design articulated through the link between the object, person and space. Its materialiaty provokes tactile emotion and the concept of inner self.
Designed and produced with philosophy of using honest materials, simplicity of execution, forward thinking and spatial awareness distinguish Noon Studio’s beliefs. More info at info@noon-studio.com
