Metal and glass mixed with a playful hourglass shape makes for a pretty cool lamp. The JINN lamp designed by Mathias Hahn for Vertigo bird comes in a floor or desk model. I love this reinterpretation of the old gas or oil lantern.
In opposition to the traditional build of a central structure holding the shade and light source in place, Jinn is deconstructing this typology by removing the stem. The metal shade is supported by a glass piece that is mounted on top of the base. The light source itself is located in the base so that the light is reflected from the lamp shade and emits through the glass. Being reminiscent of oil or gas lamps.
Light & Jelly By Fabrice Fouillet & Le creative sweatshop
Modern lamps encased in jelly? Why not? Fabrice Fouillet & Le creative sweatshop have taken some modern lamps and half encased them in “jelly”. The results are some very beautiful prism like sculptures that really play with light. I want to get my hands on some of that stuff, who knows what I could come up with. You have to admit that the results produced some stunning imagery.
Crosslight by DARK
The Crosslight designed by Jan Melis & Ben Oostrum is one of my favorite lighting fixtures. The first time I saw one was in a picture of a bathroom and there was just one singular light and I have had to have one ever since. I have literally been haunting eBay for one of these for a long time, years and when they do but very rarely show up on eBay it feels like everyone wants one too. This time I got lucky, I snagged one for pretty cheap. I don’t really have a place for it to hang so I may just leave it laying around like in pics 1,2,3. I think it looks great as a sculpture, it has a great pop art feel. The fact that it glows is a plus. Most of the following images are form DARK, the manufacturer unless otherwise noted.

I have a healthy obsession for modern vintage lighting and even though the Cirkel leaning lamp is not vintage it has that feeling of. Could you imagine two of these flanking a fireplace? I think the legs would have to be taller but wow they would look killer
Leaning lamp against the wall, is a floor lamp. This piece leaves no other choice then to put it against the wall. It is a little creature what is looking through your wall to the other side.
Buoy by Keha3
I could see the Buoy by Keha3 designed by Margus Triibmann used in an outdoor setting, maybe a few scattered through the yard. It is made for indoor and outdoor use with a water proof version as well. It is a mix between utilitarian, modern and industrial all in one package.
Luminaire Buoy was created with the wish to create a portative and durable outdoor luminaire which at the same time would look attractive indoors. Buoy can be hung to the wall of the building, placed to the corner of the garden, put on the quay or fixed to the pole – the luminaire is designed to resist different conditions of use.
Copper Lights by David Derksen
Lately I have been really liking copper, could be that “Santa” gave me one of my “wish list lamps” this year. David Derksen’s Copper Lights are very cool. The amazing lighting effect produced is most likely the result of the faceting mixed with the copper color, sort of an industrial elegance.
The Copper Lights are a translation of the Copper Cabinet into more functional products. The bending and soldering techniques have been perfected, resulting in delicate but very useful lamps, which can be produced in series.The three different shapes make them suitable for different applications in the interior.
