JanMichael over at AMODERNU sent us this very cool DIY. He found a great Modern Arc floor lamp for an amazing $14. There was only one problem, the thing was brass. JanMichael’s first thought was to paint it but with a little research he found a way to make that ugly dated brass, silver modern! For a grand total of $24 he now has a very cool modern arc lamp. He even shares a few tips how to get that ugly duckling a little cheaper. Check out more “after” pics and a link to the DIY after the jump.

Oh man! I’ve seen so many cool lights and other things that I wanted, but they were brass so I never bothered to get them. Thanks for sharing this, now I know better for the next time I spot something!

I’ve had some people ask what brand I used to remove the brass finish. It was Klean-Strip KS-3 Premium Stripper purchased from Lowes.

Wow! So neat! Obviously this fine young woman put a lot of time and effort into this project. In fact, judging from her reflection, she’s a project I’D like to put a lot of time and effort into.

You do good work and carry on the family tradition of cheap.

Great idea. I just love a good deal plus creating something that looks like you paid hundreds for. I am sure we all find others things to use this type of refinishing on. Thanks for the tip.!

The blog post about how to remove the brass color is no longer up and running! Does anyone remember the steps to this process?
