lise, I wouldn't say in bad taste. Look at the price of knock off's and maybe that would give you a better idea as to price.

hi tyler
the marble top you have, what size is it, i have the opportunity to get a marble top for 30.00 it is 15.5 inches, i am wondering if it will balance, also there is one that is 24 inches, can i ask your opinion, would either work?

Thanks Tyler for the QUICK response. So I just did the magnet test, and it seems as though the stem part is chrome (magnet stuck) and the base part is aluminum (no stick). So, I may just want to have it sand blasted and the spray paint it myself? Is there a completely DIY solution for this? I do have an extensive workshop with tools (no sandblaster though...it's on the list!) and am tight on cash, so am trying to not spend too much. Thanks for the tip on the table top, I will route the bottom edge and actually already have a good collection of bits.

Heidi B, Is the base chrome plated or is it just polished aluminum? If the chrome plating is bad enough, they will probably have to strip it off and either re-chrome it or you could have it powder coated. If the base is polished aluminum you should be able to just re-polish it. If you wanted to go a cheaper route you could just have them sand blast or remove the chrome and then you could paint or pray it yourself with a high gloss paint.
<br />
For the top your most cost effective route will probably be the formica top. To give it the real look get a router bit that will angle the bottom edge inward just like the real table tops.
