Michael Van Valkenburgh has some fantastic landscapes in their body of work. I love how in most cases they create an environment that is much bigger in scale than the human form. This allows one to feel part of or incorporated into the landscape. The massive blocks of concrete, the large stacked slabs of stone or even the natural slices of wood would be so killer to interact with. More after the jump.
The office works closely with urban planners, architects, engineers, and ecologists, and as a result, MVVA has emerged as an innovative leader of multidisciplinary urban design teams. The firm’s collaborative approach and integrated design methodology ensures that the experience of MVVA’s built landscapes grows from, and is supported by, integrated sustainability, outstanding environmental performance, financial resourcefulness, material resilience, technical innovation, and material expression.
