The singular long flat roofed rectangle with a wall of glass has to be one of my favorite designs for a modern house. This lake house by Heliotrope Architects is such a stunning design inside and out. A few things to note: end cut floors, marble bathroom and aluminum siding are just a few elements that caught my attention. There has also been a focus on being “green” with the construction of this home but I will let you click through and read all about that.
The design response situates the structure among mature fir trees located directly between the beach and an upland meadow, with walls of glass opening out to both. Steel columns minimize visible structure from the interior, while metal-clad wall elements provide a bold form when seen from the exterior. The roof is vegetated, which filters rainwater that in turn is collected and stored for use in irrigation.
