Cleaver attempt but far off the mark. Its $450.00 for a reason. there is a whole lot of idea, design and craftsmanship in the original.

I agree with Adam. Its insulting to say that his idea and time are not worth what he is asking.

Calling a $450 price tag, ridiculous, ok, I mean, if you think so, that's fine... BUT a quote like this;"...without losing any of the functional or aesthetic appeal of the original." you go way to far! It's like comapring apples and pears, I mean, your table is way off the original, beautifully designed and crafted piece of art.

Kudos for trying to recreate it cheaply, but aesthetically I think you've failed. The original is beautiful, the corner bends are wood, it has craftsmanship to it. You essentially dulled it down to tubular stock and did it cheaply.

This could be compared to attractive, crafted, and well designed homes by an architect, and neighborhoods of cheaply built, cookie cutter homes by developers with the same floor plan and cheap vinyl siding. Both are types create a house, but one is a cheaper version with less care and effort put into it.

This is exactly why you should own a pipe bender and a welding machine. Or at least be willing to go down to your local machinist and ask for some help bending steel.

I like the wood and metal left real. What keeps the glass from sliding on the metal?

Very cool! I can't help but think it would look infinitely better if the base was painted one solid color. Still an impressive DIY project!
