What an incredible modern home smack dab in Tijuana Mexico. I really like the balance of natural and hard surface textures. The scrap wood exterior wall is really a cool element only to reveal all of the interior concrete walls. I love all of the modern landscaping outside, inside and even on the roof. More after the jump.

Karina: Jul 07 09 at 12:46 pmI’m from Tijuana (now I live in South Carolina, where the lack of modern architecture makes me sad, especially since I’m looking for a house) and I know exactly where this is!!! I follow your blog and I was SO excited to see this entry today—I don’t see Tijuana come up in blogs very often, I miss it so very much— THANKS for making my day!!
Tyler: Jul 07 09 at 12:55 pmKarina your welcome, I have been to Tijuana several times, mostly doing the tourist stuff. I do remember an issue of Dwell that featured several modern homes in Tijuana.
Karina: Jul 07 09 at 1:09 pmDid the touristy trip include tacos de carne asada from a real taco stand? If so, then you have tasted the whole essence of Tijuana.
Googling that dwell article. Right now.
Tyler: Jul 07 09 at 1:17 pmI think I was to paranoid about the whole Montazuma’s Revenge thing. So I guess I missed out
Donald: Jul 07 09 at 3:49 pmi’m drooling over the wooden screen/fence - love seeing things like this. it reminds me of this scrap wood wall, but done for outside http://lumberjocks.com/projects/7742
Tyler: Jul 07 09 at 3:54 pmDonald, nice work on that wall. I think I have seen pics before maybe on AT?
Donald: Jul 07 09 at 3:57 pmnot my wall (yet) but AT’s where i originally saw it too
Jesse: Jul 08 09 at 6:33 amThat is really cool, but it is not a house, its a “centro de aprendizaje” (cultural center.)
I love Sebastian Mariscal’s work, especially the 2004 Valle House in Valle de Guadalupe.
Tyler: Jul 08 09 at 9:26 amJesse, thanks for the clarification, but can’t I have it as my house? I wish!
Jean Ma: Jul 22 09 at 8:04 amThe design to me looks like a mixture of a modern and japanese architectural design. Since the wooden structure will be exposed to long duration of climactic changes, I hope they’ll be able to maintain the original texture and color of the facade wooden wall.
But overall I love it, its original and unique.Regards,
