I love the size and design of this modern home by Taylor Reynolds. I have always had a liking of cinder/cement type blocks used in modern architecture. The blocks used in this projects were staggered a bit creating a very interesting dimensional pattern that runs throughout the house. The color pallet of mostly grays, blacks and white is really nice, although it needs a little warming with a few wood pieces and some punches of color using some artwork.
The selection of natural, unadorned materials – particularly in the textured concrete blockwork – set the building modestly into the site and street. Texture within the block laying pattern is a significant element in the whole; a typically flat and utilitarian material is transformed, becoming a sculptural element delineating the homes’ spaces.
