my wife and i were taking a country drive this weekend, and the topic of houses with dark (depressing ??) exeriors came up.
i’m curious about the scandinavian/northern penchant for the black/dark exteriors and siding with a full-bore white interior.
white interior multiplies scarce sunlight…does the black exterior absorb it for day-time-heat-gain in a cold climate?? or perhaps some type of tar is a common and inexpensive preservative for wood siding…like inexpensive red primer being the genesis of so many “red barns” (= cheaper paint).
it may be popular on summer houses constructed on tight budgets,
