A couple of weeks ago I bought a wood lathe and have been messing around with it. Liam Flynn doesn’t mess around when he turns his modern vessels. These pieces have a beautiful silhouette that are so striking. I love the different textures and surfaces that are present on some of these art works. Maybe someday I will get the gumption up to try and turn a bowl.
“An encounter with a Liam Flynn vessel can be an emotional experience. His pieces are achingly beautiful: they have a brooding presence, a sense of rightness, an air of confidence. We long to touch and caress them, to cup our hands around them and lift them and feel for ourselves their astonishing lack of weight.” – Roger Bennett (Liam Flynn retrospective catalogue essay 2011)
