Knockdown Chair by Inoda + Sveje

Inoda + Sveje have been developing the Knockdown Chair while at Miyazaki chair factory. The sculptural quality of the arms is outstanding. I also think the armrests are unique in the way they don’t “sing” with the frame.

The armrest of the chair is something apart, we intended it to be perceived differently than the rest of the structure as it is the only wooden part you will have a close “relation” with, it truly was a joy to sculpture and we have a few in the studio just for hugging.

Modern by David Lena

I love when I come across a photographer’s portfolio full of amazing mid century modern homes. David Lena has an extraordinary body of work which includes both the interiors and exteriors of modern and mid century modern architecture. There are a couple of homes that have swimming pools and David has done a killer job at capturing the lighting and reflective qualities of the pools.

Seltanica Light by Commonwealth

I am really loving the contradiction of surfaces and textures that the Seltanica Light by Commonwealth displays. The light source gives the viewer a better glimpse of what is going on inside the light fixture.

Remembering the tactile pleasures of landscape, moonscape, and perhaps even more so, the fragility of aging skin, the Seltanica Lamps express a formalism unique to the contemporary world. Working within modeling software normally used to create animal membranes for animation, the Seltanica’s interiors are as much a product of technological experiment as they are guided by classic compositional rules for the creation of desirous adornment.

Eastvold + Plastolux = Modern tables part two

eastvold plastolux modern tables design

If you have been following along with the Plastolux and Eastvold project here is the second installment. If you missed the first you can find it here Eastvold + Plastolux = Modern tables. On this post we can see the wood part of the tables being constructed. We currently have black, white and teak with a little chrome for a color pallet in our master bedroom. I really didn’t want a warm wood as our teak dresser provides enough warmth. I decided to go with white oak on the white frame, I am really excited with how these are turning out. Matt is a true craftsman and in my mind an artist.

What frame and wood combination would you do?

Bravais Table by Dana Cannam Design

I don’t recall ever seeing a table where the legs protrude all the way through the top of the table. The Bravais Table by Dana Cannam Design is a beautiful concept. I love how the lower legs splay out, it make for some nice drama.

The table leg arrangement is designed using the constant distance of a specified direction from a random set of points. This relocates the structure of the table to the top surface, contrasting conventional table constructions where components of stability are commonly hidden underneath the table top.

Modern interiors by Guilherme Torres

The interior work of Guilherme Torres has been seen all over the interweb but I don’t think I have posted any of these killer spaces yet. Instead of just choosing one, here are a few of my favorites. I really like the balance of sophisticated and pop art. The general color pallet is kept pretty mute mixed with some really nice punches of color utilizing art and furniture.
