The Seva House designed in 1959 by modernist Hugh Kaptur has your typical flavored mid century “bring the outside in” walls of glass but also has a few unique features as well. The large stones on the patio and in the pool make for a natural setting. The most unique element to me is the sail like awnings that pitch out over the patios. It looks as though they can be removed repaired or exchanged. I love the interiors in this place, almost perfect! There are plenty of more pictures and a great article on the house and the owners over at Curbed.

I’m with you on the interesting awnings. I just don’t understand why they didn’t make a more permanent solution. In that climate I don’t think you would ever need to remove them for increased heat/solar gain. I really like the interior and the house reminds me of my in-laws Deck House from 80s with those LVL beams.

Those awnings are great, and they have some fantastic furniture and art too. Beautiful home!

Gotta agree about the home, with its wonderful artwork and the gorgeous rugs. Then I saw the hills surrounding the home and the pool. Wow! Is that a pair of corgis in the one photo?

While architect Hugh Kaptur designed the home, the awning and pool were designed by noted architect Albert Frey, whose own house was just up the hill. You can learn more about the house and its current owners in our film Quiet Elegance: The Architecture of Hugh M. Kaptur available at http://www.HughKaptur.com
