One of my resolutions for the year is to do a little more thrifting. I have somewhat written off the area in which I live. The few times I have been on craigslist or visited some local thrift stores there were no signs of modern or mid century modern at all. I am obviously on eBay all the time but the prices plus shipping make it a little expensive. I had the idea to look on craigslist in the closest bigger city to us and SLAP! there it was. I called, we drove and after 4 hours total on the road we have a winner! Many of you may remember my hacked Traby credenza, it will be repurposed into a pair of night stands later down the road. Make the jump to see what has me so stoked.

This dresser was listed as teak marked made in Denmark. We took it home for $300 which is not a steal but a good price. As I took out all the droors to clean it up I noticed there was not a single piece of veneer on this dresser. On further inspection you can see that the upper and lower dovetails are a nice dark walnut giving the inserts a dark color. I have other walnut in the house and this unit to me appears to be all walnut but I am no expert. It is stamped made in Denmark on the back but there are no other markings, either way we love it! Anyone have anything similar? I would love to find out who the maker is. The week before, I scored these alvar aalto wanna be stools, $15 for the pair. I don’t really like the color so I may have to do some tweaking. Not a bad way to start off the year.

PLASTOLUX “keep it modern” » Thrifting with George : Mar 12 10 at 8:00 amAnn Marie: Jan 21 10 at 9:47 amWhat a great find! I think the price is really good given the condition and how well made it is. I would have snatched it up too! We just bought two 1960’s chairs that we love. At some point we will change out the fabric, but for now we’re really enjoying them. If you are interested, I posted pics on my blog. Looking forward to seeing what else you find this year. Happy Hunting!

Chall: Jan 30 10 at 9:13 pmHi!
I just stumbled across your website. Great job! I’ve been reading for almost an hour–really fantastic site. As someone else who is a m-c-m (and loud 70’s stuff) furniture and decor addict, I can relate.
I’ve gotten just about every piece I have (which at this point is just about an entire house full) from craigslist and thrift stores. I find a good tactic is to search the entire craigslist every day for certain keywords, like “modern”, “retro”, etc.
Have a good one!
